FIRE: 3-part Kundalini Yoga Ritual in Preparation for Winter.

Winter’s chill is slowly approaching the Northern Hemisphere. Days are growing shorter, the air thins, and some of our energy levels dwindle. Seasonal Affective Disorder is real! Join the Brujas of Brooklyn for “FIRE” a 3-part kundalini yoga series that will help to get our bodies and spirits prepared for the winter. We do so by channeling fire energy via Breath of Fire. Breath of Fire is a major feature of Pranayama (or the science of breath) in Kundalini Yoga; each ritual will build on the basics of this master breath. The rituals can be experienced on their own, yet participating in all three promises to be transformative. Opened to all levels.

11/7: Kundalini 101: The first ritual of the Brujas of Brooklyn’s 3-part FIRE Series will break down the basics of Kundalini Yoga and Pranayama (sacred breathing) with an emphasis on Breath of Fire. As a technology that is rooted in astrology, sacred geometry, and Aruveydic holistic healing systems, kundalini yoga is layered; it can be challenging for a beginner to grasp all of its aspects in a traditional class. The Brujas of Brooklyn are thus offering a “101” for those interested in tapping into the magic of this yogic science. In Kundalini Yoga, Breath of Fire is a foundational breathing technique that increases immunity, strengthens the nervous system and increases lung capacity, to name a few. Though framed as a “101” course, this ritual will have you burning impurities from both your physical and spiritual bodies.

The Brujas of Brooklyn are Afro-Dominican identical twins, raised in Brooklyn, New York. They believe in the power of Spirit to cast spells that aid in collective healing. The Brujas of Brooklyn are healing generational traumas of gendered racism, which women of color often hold in our wombs, or Yonis. Their craft is therefore dedicated to womb-healing, or what they call Woke Womb Work. Their YONI workshops create safe spaces for women to release generations of pent us trauma. The work that they do is inspired by the 7th generation principle among indigenous peoples across the Americas: the healing that takes place today will help to heal 7 generations before us and 7 generations after us. This is their wish.

Dr. Griselda Rodriguez-Solomon (Dr. G.) is a professor, doula and Kundalini yogi. She earned a PhD in Sociology with an emphasis on Gender Studies from Syracuse University. Dr. G. teaches courses throughout the City University of New York (CUNY) related to Racism and Birthing (In) Justice in the US. She is a published author and contributor for Hip Latina Magazine. The home-birth of her sun Talib changed her life forever.

Dr. Miguelina Rodriguez is an unapologetic gentrification critic, author and Urban Studies professor at LaGuardia Community College. She earned a PhD in Urban Planning and Public Policy from Rutgers University. Her dissertation was an ethnographic study on the ways in which first and second-generation Dominican immigrants experience/make sense of gentrification in Washington Heights. Dr. Miguelina Rodriguez thanks her Saturn's Return for shaping her life as a Yoni priestess. Womb Wellness is her life's work.
